MDGMS MeetingsMDGMS MEETINGS

DATE:    First Friday of each month (except July and August)
TIME:    7:00 p.m.
PLACE:  25647 W. Main Street, Barstow, CA 92311

Our club members enjoy programs featuring aspects of the earth sciences, lapidary art and techniques, and other subjects of interest to those of us living in the Mojave Desert. We conduct business, announce field trips, have scheduled "show and tell" activities, and always socialize over refreshments at the end of the meeting. The evening is always interesting and informative. All events are open to MDGMS club members, their families, and any guests. Guests are always welcome.

Some of our recent meeting topics have included:

  • Alaskan Gold Rush
  • Beyond Tradition, Indian Art and its Evolution
  • Gemstone Identification
  • Gemstones of America
  • The Physical Properties of Minerals
  • Tree Stories Petrified Wood (Video) / Is it Rock or Wood? (Presentation)
SPECIAL MEETINGS: Three times a year we set aside time for party and social gatherings.
  • June - Family picnic and club silent auction.
  • August - Ice cream social and grab bag stuffing.
  • December - Holiday potluck with decorations and gift exchange.
Other club activities include monthly field trips for collecting fossils, minerals, and rocks.

LIBRARY: Started in 2006, the club maintains a small library of books, magazines, and videotapes which are available for loan to members during each meeting. Our librarian is Katie Boyd.
