MDGMS Trips MDGMS FIELD TRIPS

The Mojave Desert is a treasure trove of collecting sites with many different specimens available. MDGMS schedules monthly one-day field trips from January through May and September through December. Due to the desert heat, there are NO field trips June through August. Occassionally we have overnight trips.

Field trips are held on the Saturday of the month following the Friday workshop. They are for the purpose of collecting crystals, gems, mineral and fossil specimens. Items collected are used for displaying, club projects, or jewelry making.

Some of our trips involve just MDGMS members and guests while others are planned jointly with other clubs in neighboring cities. A number of CFMS rock clubs in the Los Angeles area are collaborating on a joint field trip schedule where each event is open to members of any club. The goal is to have one or two good trips each month and share in the planning and coordinating of each event.
